Laying in bed the other day, trying to fall asleep, I started making a mental list, of all the key pieces I would like to add to my wardrobe, until Spring comes. It’s way more fun than falling asleep counting sheep, at 4 in the morning, right ? Well, as I was thinking about all the things I need/want, I remembered the Essentials Episodes, and decided that this is a good time to include the denim shorts, to our fundamental list of clothing.
You have to admit they are kind of an elemental item, carrying us throughout the seasons, never really going out of style, always looking trendy and improved. Without mentioning they are super comfortable and easy to mix. Inspired by this freezing cold day of winter, I chose a darker pair of denim shorts, that I tried to team up with just warm and cozy stuff, for three looks, that could be viable options during this season. Of course, they are not recommended for long walks or busy outdoor days, for those, you will still need at least 2, or 3 layers of clothing.
I hope you’ll enjoy reading this, just as much as I will enjoy a hot cup of strawberry vanilla tea. One of the few good things about cold winter days.
I used : Miss Selfridge – Rust Cable Detail Over Knee Socks in Orange; Steve Madden – Foreway Boot in Cognac; Dorothy Perkins – Speckled coral cocoon jumper; H&M – Gold coloured necklace with metal and feather pendants; Old Navy – Women’s Faux-Shearling Vests; MOTO – Indigo Denim Hotpants.
I used: H&M – Blue Cardigan; Dorothy Perkins – Blue horseshoe jeans belt; Zatchels – Leather Barrel Bag in Yellow; Weekday – Peak Blouse Pink; MOTO – Indigo Denim Hotpants; Waxing Poetic – Textured Stack Rings; WHISPER – Mustard Wedge Shoe; Topshop – 80 Denier Mustard Tights.
I used: FULL TILT – Love America Womens Tee; MOTO – Indigo Denim Hotpants; ASOS AGGIE – Leather Western Ankle Boots; H&M – Imitation Leather Biker Jacket; River Island – Chunky Knit Socks; ASOS – Adjustable Winking Happy Face Bottle Top Ring; Dorothy Perkins – White check boyfriend shirt.
It’s been a while since I have done my latest Essentials episode, almost a month actually, and I quite forgot how fun it is to mix and match brands, colors, fabrics. I said fun, but it is also an extremely time consuming activity, maybe just for me, as I get caught in the “research” and sometimes forget to put a stop to it.
Skipping to the point, this forth episode has all three looks based on a piece that proves to be absolutely necessary in ones wardrobe : the black blazer. I happen to love blazers no matter the color, but somehow the black one seems to be the classic way to go and there’s nothing wrong with sticking to the classics, now and then. You must have already heard by now that old piece of “shopping” advice, that suggests to always think of possible ways to mix an item, with the clothing already in our closet, right before we purchase it and we find at least one combination, it’s safe to know we will actually be wearing that particular item. Well, when buying a black blazer, there’s no need to worry about all that, as you will be able to find a match for it, in a heart beat.
Enough with the bla bla, let’s skip to the important part, the three looks :
I used : Current/Elliot – The Stiletto low-rise cropped skinny jeans ; Maison Martin Margiela – Stretch-wool blazer ; Splendid – Cotton and modal-blend top ; Nixon – Time Teller ceramic watch ; Dominic Jones – Scarab Dragonfly 23-karat white gold-plated ring ; Mulberry – Bayswater textured-leather bag ; Miu Miu – Suede pumps.
I used : Vionnet – Matte-satin dress ; Maison Martin Margiela – Stretch-wool blazer ; Bottega Veneta – Blackened oxidized-silver shell necklace ; Falke – Pure Matt 100 denier black tights ; Church’s – Classic Burwood glossy leather brogues ; Anya Hindmarch – Mini Gracie leather shoulder bag.
I used : Eddie Borgo – Silver-plated turquoise spike earrings ; Maison Martin Margiela – Stretch-wool blazer ; Burberry Prorsum – Beaded textured-leather wristlet clutch ; Christian Louboutin – Gril 120 patent-leather sandals ; Diane Von Furstenberg – Mara asymmetric sequined silk top ; Todd Lynn – Herault crepe and leather skinny pants.
Needless to say you can find all of the items on Net-A-Porter.
You guys must already have some pieces in your wardrobe that you use as a base for creating different looks. The “Essential” series of posts I’m starting today will focus mainly on this kind of items and will try to serve as a source of inspiration. All that of course, if , some of my ideas will manage to inspire you in creating versatility in your everyday outfits. I decided to start with the so much used & always present : Mr. White Tank .
The following three looks I will post having a white tank as a base are composed by randomly selected “designery” items that I liked. All of them are from NET-A-PORTER, but I bet every single piece can be replaced with something that we can really find in our closets.
The first look is the cozy & comfortable one, with a bit of an edgy touch, perfect for running errands, talking a walk, you get the point :).
I used : Alexander Wang – Wool Sweater ; DKNY – Pocketed Leather Tote ; Splendid – Cotton White Tank ; Elizabeth and James – Wilda Suede Ankle Boots ; Isharya – Gold Plated Glass Ring ; Alexander McQueen – Leopard and Skull-Print Silk-Chiffon Scarf ; Joseph – Leather Leggings .
The second look is more of a minimalistic look, clean & chic :
I used : Helmut Lang – Ember Crepe Blazer ; Dannijo – Silver-Plated Swarovski Crystal Necklace ; Splendid – Cotton White Tank ; J.Crew – Twill Shorts ; Alexander Wang – Adele Leather Fold-Over Trunk Clutch ; LD Tuttle – The Empty Leather Ankle Boots ;
The third and final look is so autumny , perfect for warm fall days. You might have noticed by now that I`m not big on mixing prints and crazy colors, I’m always attracted to nudes , I’m “minimalistic” when it comes to colors :). But I do like seeing other people wearing the – what I like to call – “crazy outfits”.
I used : Vince – Belted Knitted Wool Cardigan ; Bottega Veneta – Intrecciato Leather Clutch ; Splendid – Cotton White Tank ; Nixon – Leather & Stainless Steel Watch ; Duro Olowu – Printed Silk-Satin Maxi Skirt ; DKNY – Suede & Leather Ankle Boots .
