New York Fashion Week – J.Mendel Fall 2012

With London Fashion Week already happening for a few days now, I’m moving way slower than I should at this point, as it seems that a fast forward button has been pushed somewhere in the Universe. So if you’ll excuse me for being fashionable late, there are still some collections from New York Fashion Week that I’d like to briefly talk about, mainly because I liked them …way too much.

This is the case of designer Giles Mendel, who presented maybe the most beautiful and luxurious collection for his J.Mendel line, during New York Fashion Week, and a collection of this sort, could not have passed unmentioned on the blog. Talk about Uptown Chic during Fall and Winter !

It took me just a few seconds, enough to take a good glance at the first look that stepped on the runway, to know that by the end of it, I’ll be really amazed, or better yet, mesmerized. And so it was. The opening of the show, with head to toe buttery white numbers, might have been one of the things I loved most about the collection, as they caught my eye instantly and made me wish for more; the entire collection could be easily worn by any of my favorite celebrities, as it is elegant, fresh, light and truly flattering, so I am excited to see who’s going to wear what, when and especially how; every single piece of the collection stood out on its own, as the looks were styled in a classy and chic way; there was nothing simple about the sculptural tailoring and architectural cut outs, that added a little bit of edge, to the utterly feminine collection. And then, there were the gowns …

Sexy cut outs, architectural tailoring, plenty of fur, sheer pleats, touches of gold, sheer insets and leather gloves, are all in line for the most fashionable trends of Fall 2012.

My favorite looks of the collection were about 90% of what I saw, but to try and be more specific, the three looks above serve as a prefect example : the head to toe super cool white look, the black gown with sheer insets and pleats, and the short white and beige cocktail dress, styled with gold accents. To all that, I should add the furry leather jacket in maroon, paired with a flirty short skirt, an oversized bag and gold pumps:

The almost light color pallet of the collection consisted in white, black, maroon, beige, saffron and gold, as for the accessories, oversized bags with fur detailing, white, black and gold pumps, ankle boots, leather gloves and wide belts, complemented the gracious looks. Models were styled with natural make-up and super soft curls.
